GLEE-GASM! Media Meditation 1

HOW AMAZING WAS THAT!

This is a clip from this weeks “Glee”, one of the best new shows on Fox. This weeks’ episode was all about Britney Spears and even guest starred the infamous Ms. Spears. Every week, some of the girls from work and I always get together, make dinner, and watch and obsess of Glee! This week’s episode was one of the best that I have seen.

The reason why I am talking about this episode is because while we were watching it this week, a girl friend and myself got into a little argument. As we were watching the episode, I was discussing how one of the stars of the show “Britney S. Peirce” aka Heather Morris, is a professional dancer and went on tour with Beyonce and performed her infamous “Single Ladies” dance. My friend did not believe me so I told her to “GOOGLE IT!”

She picked up her blackberry and went straight to YouTube and VOILA, she found Heather Morris dancing right next to Beyonce!

The reason why I am explaining this story is to show how dependent our society has become on technology. Even the simplest arguments are solved by using our smart phones and the internet! Neil Postman, author of Amusing Ourselves to Death, discusses “how our own tribe (society) is undergoing a vast and trembling shift from the magic of writing to the magic of electronics.” The internet has become a place where any question can be solved and we have so many new devices that bring the internet to our fingertips. The days of reading books and writing essays are in the past, and technology has fully taken control!

My group of friends and I always say “Google it” whenever we want to settle an argument. I find this to be sad and very tragic. We have become so dependent on technology that we can easily go onto our cell phone and go on the Internet to find out information, just to prove a point…SAD!

  1. Sad, but powerful tools for info-gathering, yes, Matt?

    GLEE - what a show.

Very good blogging here - for excellence, caption and credit your photo embeds, and check rogue grammatical issues.

You are getting good at this.
